Just In Time

“Sometimes I can feel my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I’m not living.”
—Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Our crappy internet has been even crappier than usual the last week or so; when we can get online our speed is even slower than the old dial we were all happy to see go the way of the dodo. Since our (ahem) 'service' provider does this regularly, sometimes leaving us without service for weeks at a time, we've elected to do the sensible thing and toss them like a stinking gym sock. As an example: our internet has already switched off four times (erm, six times by the time I could get it published) and had to be manually re-connected whilst typing up this post.

Our new modem arrives today and on Monday we're having a new line installed from another service provider we've used in the past, with good results. We'll have much better, faster and more consistent service for the same price we're paying for the crappy, slow and horribly inconsistent service we have now. Sure, there will be some bugs to work out the first few days, but it will be worth it. Why, I do believe this is happening just in time to save the last ragged bit of my sanity.

In other news: Spring is truly here; the magnolias are blooming, the birds are serenading us with their horny chorus and a thunderstorm (with 30+ degree temperature drop) is on it's way. I'm not complaining; this time of year is exhilarating!

A bit of new (to me) music... absolutely love this man's voice:

    1. Oddly enough, magnolias are one of the few blooming trees which don't bring on the sneezies for me.

  2. Life is now too short for poor internet connection. I am thinking you are not literally getting a new line? Magnolias blooming hey. So we are not totally opposite. Ours will be blooming in 3-4 months and given that gap, it is hard to argue that our magnolias bloom before yours.

    1. From the new internet service provider, I wouldn't be surprised if they install a new line. Nor will they charge extra for it if past experience is any indicator.Part of the reason their service is better.

The star magnolias always bloom first here but the magnificent grandifloras are hot on their heels this year!

  3. Nice to hear you are upgrading to a better internet service. Nothing much more maddening than waiting and fuming.

  4. For the past 2 days our internet has been absolute crap instead of sort of crap and we have no alternatives at present. We are in happy anticipation of the launch of new satellite scheduled for 2017 that will give us better service. Well, not exactly "give" since it is pricy, but as Andrew says, life is way too short for crap internet. Happy for your soon-to-be better internet! Cheers, Wilma

  6. Yay for ditching someone who doesn't provide the service but DOES charge you for it. I wish I was quicker to do the same.
Magnolias? Lovely things. We have tried to plant them a few times, but the cockatoos destroy the saplings...

    1. We've been putting up with this for over a year now and at least once a month the service goes slooooow. Or out.

  7. We have a magnolia that bloomed for the first time this year sort of. The buds didn't open up all the way, but as long as I see flowers that counts in my book!

    I love that Snicker's bar - loopy.

  10. It's so frustrating when problems erupt with the internet and with our computers. We've become so reliant.

    I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend...enjoy! :)

  15. I understand. While our internet service seems good for the most part, it is sometimes slow. And once you are used to something, you want it now! I don't enjoy getting on my computer anymore because it is so so so slow compared to my iPhone But I have to get on my computer to update my blog.
On a happy note, I like the musica....which I listened to on my iPhone!
    Happy Easter!
