That's how long I'm putting off posting my story... The tremors have been particularly pernicious for a couple of days; pushing a share or like button is do-able, but extended typing is not. Still, have figured out what's causing it and all should be rectified in a few hours. In the meantime, wouldn't life be lovely if we could adopt her philosophy?
Methinks this is a good time to re-post this video about Essential Tremor: (By the by, not shilling for donations by posting this video, just showing what it can be like.)
Hugs.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is totally misnamed. Essential it bloody isn't.
I don't have essential tremour, but do have the shakes. And it sucks.
I hate that you have to deal with it too... and you're right, it isn't essential. At least they don't call it 'benign' essential tremor any longer.
DeleteYour post is a bit clunky for me at the moment - the video keeps freezing and won't upload the picture, so I'll look later. I didn't know you had any tremors, Crank.
ReplyDeleteI'm chockful of tremors Tom: Parkinson's and Essential Tremor, with PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder) to keep me moving at night. The Great Scot keeps 'threatening' to enter me in a break dancing competition - according to him, I'd win by trying to stand still, lol.
DeleteI hate to say it, but The Great Scot has a similar sense of humour to me.
DeleteThere is an old joke about a very elderly couple who book themselves into a honeymoon suite in a swanky hotel. The woman has severe, violent tremors.
10 minutes after going upstairs, the man phones down for room service. Someone goes up and doesn't return.
10 minutes later, the man rings down again for someone else, so they send another up, who doesn't return.
Another phone call, so they send someone else up.
After the 4th call, there is only the manager left, so he goes up. He finds the old man on top of the woman, whose free leg is thrashing up and down violently. Both of them are naked. The three other bellboys are hanging on to the two arms and one leg.
The old man tells the manager to get hold of the leg, then shouts, "Ok boys - let her go!"
LOL, there's a definite resemblance in the sense of humour.

ReplyDeleteAn then it posted up a comment for Rachel on your blog!
DeleteThat could have been interesting!
DeleteThank you for the video, I really had no idea what Essential Tremor was. I've seen people with head shaking like that woman in blue, but always thought it was Parkinson's. I'm so sorry you have this. I'm sorry anybody has this.
ReplyDeleteThank you River... and you may well have been right about the Parkinson's, they are often mis-diagnosed for one another. It doesn't help that having ET can often lead to Parkinson's. Still, it is often the source of a good deal of humour in the family, which makes it easier to deal with. =)
DeleteI hope it recedes soon and you feel better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, that's very kind... unfortunately, there is no cure for ET. =)
DeleteHopefully things get more manageable soon at your sea.
ReplyDeleteThey will Pat, thanks. Who knew that orange soda contains caffeine??? I didn't until last evening. Too much caffeine triggers my movements into overdrive, which is why I strictly control (usually) how much I take in.
DeleteLive and learn!
Thank you so much for sharing this video again. I wonder why they don't call it "who-the-fuck-wants-this" tremor. Essential? I'm so glad you know what's causing your latest surge and that it should be improving soon. Sending hugs!
ReplyDeleteJacqueline, I don't know much about ET, so this was very informative. Had no idea young people could get it. Hope they find a cure, or at least something that helps, soon. You are amazing! Oh and I love that Beatrice Wood quote; my version: I owe it all to books, tea and my old man!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the video. I did not realize Essential Tremors was a separate disorder. My mother had Parkinson's Disease for nearly 30 years. She really hated the tremors, they used to make her so mad. She was a feisty woman. I think that helped her manage and fight PD for so long.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend with ET, who cannot recall not having it. "I came with it," she says. She relies on good humor, good friends, good family.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I sure hope you find relief soon, Jacqueline!
ReplyDeleteThe video would not finish playing. I'll try again later, but that is me with the peas and carrots on my fork.
ReplyDeleteWell, the video won't play for me...but I have been having some of that in the past few days. I do hope you get some relief soon.
