Sometimes...

...the Universe listens and responds with a resounding "Yes"!

I have a job interview on Monday afternoon; it's at a place Mom and I frequent and is quite legit.

My oldest brother had his last injections and tests, which he passed with flying colors. He's on the lung transplant list! Also, among all the other tests I had recently was one for the 1 antitrypsin gene, which was passed down from our father. It's what caused Jim's lung disease. I don't have the genetic markers for it.

Is it weird that I'm feeling guilty about this?

I'd say Mom and Jenn think so.

  1. Not weird at all. Survivor guilt in another manifestation. Sadly quite common. And to some extent I think it is tied to another minefield - the self worth one.
However, I am v happy that this is a bullet you have dodged and will keep my fingers and toes crossed about your job interview.

  3. I suppose people have already told you that your three generations, you, your mother and your daughter look very similar.

  4. Dodging such a bullet is good, but yeah, guilt can rise. Good luck with the job interview

  9. Congrats on your interview. I hope you get the job and love it! I think, if your brother had to choose, he would choose that you not have the gene. Be at peace about it dear. You have enough to deal with.
    Peace,

  10. I always felt guilty for not having the gene that passes on Trisomy 18 like my sister does. She had 1 baby that died from it, one that's living from it, a few miscarriages, and for sure a child that is a carrier to pass it on like her. One of her kids was never tested to see if he's a carrier.

I hope your brother gets his new lung soon!
