More Than Words Can Say

At the bottom of this post, where I usually share a music video, is a short video of the 'tremor stage' I'm in... it can, and usually will, get much worse before it gets better. My voice is getting softer and huskier so you may need to raise the volume to hear me clearly. You can describe, apologise and try to explain until you're blue in the face, but actually seeing something beats all that, hands down.

Yes, that's our now two years old Geraldo with me. Happy Birthday Geraldo! (2 April.)

I'd said, a wee while back, that my tremors were getting worse and they are. If it follows the usual pattern, then they'll get much worse and I could lose my ability to speak... again. It's a temporary thing but I still hate it really quite a lot. It's anyone's guess how long this spell will last. As a consequence, I won't be posting much but will try to visit your blogs as I'm able. Facebook is where I can be found right now, it's a way to keep in touch and it's just... easier. Easier is good.

This is also an apology to those whose emails I haven't returned, etc . . . Emails aren't easy right now. Annnd, this post is getting too long, watch the video and mayhap you'll see why easy is better for me just now. Many thanks to the kidling for making this video.

  2. I'm so sorry you have to go through that, life is harsh sometimes. I hope someday a cure can be found. Someday soon.
    Geraldo is a sweetie.

    1. He and the other three - I'm surprised they weren't throwing themselves in the middle of it! There's as much humour as anything in the situation, it's just challenging at times.

  4. I hate Parkinson's Disease. My sweet mother had it for many years. The video was an extraordinary gift to all of us because it made both you and PD real. You have a great attitude, and (of course) attitude is everything when it comes to PD. Geraldo ... what a cutie he is.

    1. Thank you Colette. It was also meant as an apology to those who may feel I'm neglecting/ignoring them.

  7. Your video is really eye-opening for me. I am quite ignorant about the realities of tremors and hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple of questions. Does your tremor make it difficult to look at things or does your brain compensate for the shake? Do you experience motion-type sickness? Are things better or worse with your eyes closed? Is the tremor there while you sleep?
I guess that is a few more than a couple of questions, but I am just trying to understand better what it is like for you.
Wishing you the best - Wilma
    P.S. Geraldo is a cutie.

    1. I wish more people would ask questions!

      1. At this point my brain mostly compensates although it can mess up my spatial judgement, which ups the risk of falls. As it gets worse my brain will no longer be able to compensate.

      2. I do experience motion-type sickness but it's as a result of a vehicular accident when young. When it gets to the head-slamming stage (where muscle spasms cause my head to slam into my shoulder) then it really exacerbates the motion sickness. Thank goodness for ginger and peppermint!

      3. Things are MUCH worse with my eyes closed, or when it's dark or shadowy/twilight. Much like a dancer, I use visual clues to maintain my balance... with no visual clues I will fall, if standing, or start slipping from my chair if I haven't braced myself.

      4. One of my movement disorders is called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder... which often accompanies Parkinson's. It's Restless Leg Syndrome's meaner cousin, often involving the whole body, and it has teeth, lol.

I have arthritis and move a lot, soon it will be 24 hours a day, which means my pain levels are also increasing, so if I seem whiny... I am. It happens and then it passes.

Thank you for asking and Geraldo is adorable, which is why he's still among the living! ;-)

    2. I should have been more specific on #4, sorry. PLMD occurs whilst sleeping, so, yes, I move during sleep as well.

    1. Thank you Shawn, but do keep in mind that I also have a severe form of hereditary essential tremor (aka familial tremor) as well as PLMD and muscle spasms. I sincerely hope your friend doesn't have all that as well.
